Abbey College Birmingham offers the following courses and programmes
- GCSE programmes
- GCE A-level programmes
- University Foundation Programmes for international students
- Easter Revision programmes
The GCSE programmes are taught over one or two years. The programmes begin in September, and students take a minimum of seven subjects, five of which are compulsory and two are options.
The GCE A-level programmes are taught over two years. The programmes begin in September, and students usually take four or five subjects in their first year and three or four subjects in their second year. Students work with their teachers to select their choice of subjects from an extensive list.
The University Foundation Programme is a one-year programme designed to prepare international students for direct entry to a number of British universities.
All of the programmes are taught in classes of approximately 10 students. The small class size enables the needs of individuals to be addressed swiftly and effectively without losing the benefits of group work.
The class size is particularly important for international students. It enables them to adjust quickly to the rigour of the syllabuses; it also promotes their proficiency in the English language.
Teachers are glad to make appointments to meet students outside of classes to deal with questions that cannot be addressed during formal lessons.
Students receive a full set of course notes for each of their subjects. The notes are written by the course teachers and supplement the standard textbooks and other reading material. The notes are a key element of teaching; they enhance the opportunity for discussion, questions and answers, and problem solving.
