Abbey College Cambridge was founded in 1994 and has an outstanding record of academic success.
The standard of teaching is particularly high and the College regularly achieves excellent results. In the past five years 30 of its students have gone on to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, with a further 60 or so gaining admission to either medical school or the most competitive courses at the most prestigious universities.
In 2009, eleven students were admitted to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge and six students gained admission to read medicine or dentistry. More than 35 others went on to universities of the highest rank.
The College offers students a stimulating environment in which staff and students work together to achieve academic success. Students are treated as mature young adults and classes are taught by tutors committed to examination success.
Many of the College’s staff have enjoyed previous careers in academia, government service, commerce and industry; moreover, staff body includes both principal and assistant examiners.

Julian Davies
Principal, Abbey College Cambridge
Julian Davies was educated at Queen Elizabeth School, Carmarthen, and the universities of Bath and Kent. He read Applied Biology at the University of Bath before going on to the University of Kent where he was awarded a PhD for his thesis on the biological response to climate change in Antarctica.
He began his teaching career in Canterbury before joining Abbey College Cambridge in 1997 as a teacher of A-level Biology. He was promoted to Head of Biology and Director of Studies in 1998 and to Vice Principal in 2001.
Julian Davies was appointed Principal of Abbey College Cambridge in 2002.
During his time as Principal, the College has undertaken a substantial increase in student numbers and acquired the latest teaching facilities while retaining small, focused teaching groups.
Julian Davies is proud of leading the College to the top of the UK league of Independent 6th Form Colleges and in his work in recruiting the most able students from around the world. He is particularly interested in the education of international students; he regularly travels overseas to meet parents of current students and to meet prospective students and their parents.
