HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION
We work with accommodation agencies to help arrange accommodation in self-catered or catered hostels for students who are aged 18 or above. The hostels are generally a short (30 minutes) bus or underground train journey from College. Single rooms in hostels are standard.
TV rooms, internet/study rooms and laundry rooms are available in many hostels.
Hostels are an excellent way for students to meet other students and live in a safe and independent environment whilst they are familiarising themselves with London.
A deposit is usually required and is paid directly to the agency or accommodation provider. All hostel accommodation rent money is paid directly to the accommodation agency or accommodation provider, not to Abbey College.
The cost of hostel accommodation varies according to accommodation type and category and meal plan. Cost is typically between £150 and £280 per week.
HOST FAMILIES
Host family homes are within a maximum travel time of 60 minutes from the College by bus or underground journey.
We work closely with accommodation agencies in London who ensure that host families are carefully selected to ensure friendly, safe and comfortable environments in which students are able both to relax and study effectively. Each student has his or her own single study-bedroom. Bathroom facilities are usually shared. Breakfast and an evening meal are taken with the host family. Students have their own set of keys.
All rent money is paid directly to the accommodation agency with whom the student makes a booking, not to College or directly to the host family. The cost of host family accommodation varies according to accommodation type and category and meal plan. Cost is typically between £160 and £275 per week. A booking fee of £25 - £50 is often payable.
Payment for accommodation is made twice yearly; once in the month before the student starts at College and the second payment is made in the fourth month that the student is at the College. For students who do not stay in host family accommodation during College Christmas and Easter holidays but do not want anyone else to occupy their room during these holidays, a retainer payment is required.
Payment for host family accommodation must be made directly to the accommodation agency that the student makes a booking with, at least 28 days prior to a student's arrival.
