Andy Burnham, Mayor of Manchester opened the new facilities at Abbey College Manchester this week. The Mayor was greeted by students as he arrived before being taken on a tour of the building and then taking time out for a quick Q&A session with some of our A-Level students, and then finishing with a moving presentation about Manchester, its rich history and significance as a city in the UK. Everyone felt so proud to be part of the city.
After the presentation Mr Burnham and Principal Liz Elam cut the presentation cake and the Mayor received an engraved paperweight as a small gift to commemorate his visit.
This was not the first time Mr Burnham has visited the college and he was delighted with how much progress has been made since his last visit, and acknowledged what a significant abbey College Manchester plays in the local city centre community.
All the students enjoyed Mr Burnham’s visit and were delighted to be given specially branded chocolate bars to mark the occasion. The ‘Friends of Abbey College’ group also attended and enjoyed the occasion and as many of them used to work here they were impressed with the development of the college.
All the students enjoyed the visit immensely and as usual behaved superbly throughout. They were each given a specially branded ‘Abbey College Manchester’ chocolate bar to mark the occasion.
Abbey College Manchester is part of the Abbey DLD Group of Colleges.
