DLD College London celebrated ‘Movember‘ this month, with students and staff getting involved in a selection of fantastic ideas for raising money for this worthy cause. ‘Movember’ takes place every year, and men all over the world grow mustaches in attempts to raise money for charity and to promote awareness of men’s health issues like testicular cancer, prostate cancer and men’s suicide and mental health.
To kick things off eleven male members of staff engaged in ‘Shave the Date’. At the beginning of the motnh each member of staff was given a clean shave by a local salon to prepare them for the month ahead where they would attempt to grow the most impressive moustach. At the end of the month students and staff all gathered in the atrium to crown one of the ‘Mo Bros’ the winner. Winners were decided by whoever received the loudest applause. Worthy winner was our security guard Paul. He won a bottle of bubbles donated by the Principal.
Students also got in on the act. An exercise bike was set in reception and students were encouraged to donate some money and then see how fat they could cycle in 5 minutes. 42 students and members of staff took part and recorded their distances. The grand total of everyone who took part was an impressive 59 miles – coincidentally the distance between DLD College London and Abbey College Cambridge.
The annual Staff vs Students charity football match provided more entertainment. A much loved fixture of the calendar and anticipation is always high. This year it was the students who won the match and with it bragging rights for the rest of the year as they romped home winners 3-1.
Principal Rachel Borland said of the month’s activities: “It is inspiring to see the entire college coming together to generate important awareness and raise essential funds for such a worthy cause. Everyone has been incredibly competitive during the activities and we are delighted that we have exceeded our intended target of £500.”
DLD College London would like to thank everyone who helped, supported or donated. A particluar mention must go to the ‘Mo Bro’s’ who made this so special and so much fun. The college has exceeded its intended fundraising target of £500 raising £867 and still counting.
DLD College London is part of the Abbey DLD Group of Colleges.
