Abbey College Cambridge student Volodymyr Federov is delighted after finishing in the Top 20 of the London Institute of Banking and Finance Student Investor Challenge round one league table this week.
The Student Investor Challenge is the UK’s most distinguished investment competition. Over four hundred thousand students from two thousand five hundred schools around the country take part. Student entrants invest virtual money on the London Stock Exchange and try to maintain a healthy stock portfolio by judging the ups and downs of the market and trying to make a profit by buying and selling shares.
Volodmyr, who is studying the International Foundation Programme Business Management and Economics Pathway, is trading under the moniker Gordon Gecko, Michael Douglas’ infamous character from the movie Wall Street, and is currently sitting sixteenth in the league table, an achievement made even more impressive as he had been trading alone whereas most of his competitors are in teams.
Economics Tutor David Tilley said “Volodymyr has shown an exceptional level of application his investment portfolio. He researched a wide variety of companies that would complement his investment strategy, and his success against some of the highest achieving schools in the country is well deserved”.
Volodymyr is now in a great position to progress to the smei-finals of the competition where the top five hundred teams have to correctly predict the closing price of particular assets, scoring points for the accuracy of their prediction and how long that prediction held.
Good luck Volodymr.
