This week on the 16th October, A Level Art students from DLD College London took a trip to the National Gallery to visit the collection of the Sainsbury Wing. Students learnt about Gothic Art and artists from the period used art materials and how paintings were created. Students attended an exciting workshop where they learnt how to work gold leaf and how to make egg tempura. Each student chose a painting from the collection in the Sainsbury Wing, copied details from it and applied gold leaf to their chosen sections and made their own egg tempura paint and then painted their section as well. All the students throoughly enjoyed the experience.
One of our students, Lilly Mae, said ‘I particularly enjoyed the gold leaf painting! We were lucky to be presented with this opportunity as this is a technique rarely practiced nowadays.’
