Some extremely generous Abbey College Manchester students answered a call to help local Manchester residents suffering from food poverty. A group of our students went to drop off food donations to the Manchester Central Food Bank warehouse on Oxford Road. They were greeted on arrival by other delighted volunteers who were amazed at the amount of food the students had managed to collect at the college. There were twenty bags of supplies in total which will give vital assistance to local residents in very desperate circumstances who need emergency supplies of food. Our students were really touched when they learnt how many people in the UK go hungry for a number of different reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill while on low income. A single box of food and basic supplies makes a huge difference to these people. Abbey College Manchester students collected everything from toothpaste, soap and toiletries to boxes of chocolates.
The Manchester Central Food bank serves the local area of Ardwick, Longsight, the City Centre and some parts of East Manchester. We are very rpoud of our students for generously donating and supporting the local community in this way.
