BTEC Creative Media Production:

Multimedia Journalism

Emily was one of DLD’s most exceptional BTEC Media Students. Arriving in September 2017 from Francis Holland School with a strong set of GCSE grades, Emily chose to study the BTEC qualification because she wanted to strike a judicious balance between theoretical and practical learning. She also favoured the real-world scenarios provided by the vocational nature of the course. From day one she had a clear goal to become a broadcast journalist.
Emily excelled on the BTEC and was one of the highest achieving students from her peer group. She was an incredibly confident student, with exemplary written and practical work produced throughout the year. Outside of her studies she took more opportunities to develop her journalistic skills. Recognising her passion and ambition DLD encouraged Emily to seek unique development opportunities outside of the classroom; last summer she travelled to Fiji to support a charity whilst documenting the experience. She attended a Guardian Masterclass on Online Journalism and is a member of the National Union of Journalists. Emily made a vital contribution to College life and was one of the founding members and champions of DLD Pride.
Emily was a keen advocate for the BTEC programme at Parents’ Evening and presented a series of online features for the College. Her contributions led to her being chosen to represent the Student Council in her final year at DLD. Emily fully deserves her excellent BTEC results and will flourish at university.
