International Foundation Programme in Music:
Leeds College of Music
Yiyi came to DLD in 2018 to study for the International Foundation Programme in Music. She was an avid performer of pop music, but had little formal training. Her learning journey was fast and exciting, and it is rare to see a student so hungry for knowledge. The IFP programme is rigorous and prepares students to study Music at university and Conservatoire. It has had a 100% rate of getting students to their first choice destinations. Its flexibility adapts to each individual’s needs which enabled Yiyi to ‘catch-up’ with theory and practical tuition. This resulted in her gaining a Merit in Grade 5 theory and another Merit for singing at Grade 8 level – a very impressive achievement in such a short time.
The course provides all the skills required for auditions and we are the first secondary institution to offer certified Alexander technique lessons. YiYi made the technique the focus of her IFP presentation, which along with her recital, written exam and composition portfolio led her to graduate from DLD with a well-deserved Distinction.
Yiyi will start her course in song writing at her first choice destination, Leeds College of Music. The LCM has an excellent reputation in the UK as a forward looking musical institution. Two of our visiting music teachers have graduated from there, and our guitar teacher, Dan Lee, has recently been signed up by Virgin records. Yiyi’ s progress will surely be as dynamic at Leeds as it has been at DLD.
